    The Knicks finally have their new general manager, but it's going to cost them.Scott Perry has agreed to a five-year deal to become the team's new GM, the team announced Friday. The Knicks had to give up a second-round draft pick in 2019 and cash considerations as compensation to the Kings, according to USA Today. The Kings and Knicks hammered out the compensation this week.Perry would directly report to former GM Steve Mills, NBA Live Coins who has been named president of the organization."Today marks a culture change for our organization where we reestablish the pride, work ethic and responsibility that comes with playing for the Knicks and representing New York," Knicks owner James Dolan said in a statement released Friday. "I’m confident that Steve is the right person to take on this role, and ensure that we return to one of the elite teams of the NBA. He’s got an ambitious plan that centers on building a young team focused on player development, communication and teamwork."His decision to bring Scott on as general manager is a critical first step in transforming this franchise. Scott brings tremendous skill and experience in helping to build winning basketball teams. He’ll immediately get to work adjusting our basketball operations department to make sure we have one of the most effective front office staffs in the NBA,” Dolan added. “As Steve and Scott move forward, I will continue to not be involved in the operations of the team."Perry had been the vice president of basketball operations for the Kings, but just for a short time. He was hired in April after he was fired from the Magic's front office and was instrumental in selecting Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox as the Kings' No. 5 overall pick and signing free agents Vince Carter, Zach Randolph and George Hill. He was also crucial in organizing a draft-day trade that gave the Kings two additional first-round picks. The team ended up selecting North Carolina's Justin Jackson and Duke's Harry Giles. Perry spent the past 12 seasons with the Seattle Supersonics, Pistons, Thunder and Magic before coming to the Kings."Scott will immediately begin to put together a basketball operations department that is among the best in the league. We will all be united in implementing our strategy of NBA Live Mobile 18 Coins, which is to build our team by developing young players, emphasizing athleticism, length and defense," Mills said. "We have several rising young stars in the organization and we expect to add more young talent to this core.
